  16.                  The program MSEPTR was written to allow designing mouse
  17.             pointers of various descriptions for use in applications. It
  18.             allow the design of the pointer and allows it to be used on
  19.             the screen after design. It can be used in several ways.
  20.  
  21.                  First, it can be used in the normal "XOR" approach,
  22.             allowing the mouse pointer to assume a contrasting color to
  23.             it's current background color. This is the method used by
  24.             most mouse cursors.
  25.  
  26.                  A second method is to keep the mouse color WHITE. This
  27.             allows the mouse pointer to showup better on all colors
  28.             except WHITE. Obviously it can't be seen on WHITE at all.

  30.                  The third method, and the one I personally like best
  31.             keeps the cursor WHITE but outlines it in BLACK. this gives
  32.             all the advantages of the WHITE cursor and still allows it
  33.             to be seen on WHITE.

  35.                  Although the program accepts certain command-line
  36.             arguments, none are necessary. All facets of the program can
  37.             be adjusted while you are within the program.

  39.                  The program requires a VGA adapter. If enough need
  40.             comes up, it can be modified to allow EGA screens. It also
  41.             requires the use of a mouse with at least two buttons.

  43.                  It's operation is simple, to begin type MSEPTR followed
  44.             by <return>. This will bring up the program screen. the
  45.             screen consists of a line of characters at the bottom of the
  46.             screen and several designs covering the rest of the screen.

  48.                  The purpose of the designs is to see how the mouse
  49.             appears while on top of the color of the design, nothing
  50.             mysterious.

  60.                  s  = square
  61.                  f  = fill tool
  62.                  m  = magnifying glass
  63.                  x  = thin "x"
  64.                  X  = thick "X"
  65.                  c  = upright cutter tool
  66.                  C  = sideways cutter tool
  67.                  aw = alternate the "WHITE" mode
  68.                  ax = alternate the "XOR" mode
  69.                  wx = nothing
  70.                  xw = changes color to indicate the current
  71.                        "WHITE" and "XOR" mode

  73.                  Placing the mouse on top of the desired thing and
  74.             depressing the left mouse button selects that function or
  75.             pointer style. When you are toggling the WHITE and XOR
  76.             modes, the current condition doesn't change until the next
  77.             pointer style is selected (it can be the same one).

  79.                  To modify the pointer, first select the pointer that is
  80.             closest to the desired result. then move the mouse pointer
  81.             to anywhere after the "wx" on the line and depress the left
  82.             mouse button.

  84.                  An enlarged picture will appear in the upper-left
  85.             corner of the screen. Placing the mouse on a square within
  86.             the picture and depressing the left button will turn-on the
  87.             pixel or depressing the right button will turn off the
  88.             pixel. This can be continued until you have the desired
  89.             result.

  91.                  Depressing both left and right buttons simultaneously
  92.             or the third (center) button will put you back to the normal
  93.             mode. You may then select the modified pointer to check the
  94.             result.

  96.                  To see what you have done, move the mouse pointer to
  97.             the upper left corner of the screen. Depressing the left
  98.             button will draw a binary representation of what the two
  99.             mouse buffers need to look like or depressing the right will
  100.             draw a hexadecimal representation. The left-hand column is
  101.             the XOR buffer and the right-hand column is the AND buffer.

  103.                  While in the "normal" screen mode, depressing both left
  104.             and right hand buttons simultaneously  (or the center
  105.             button) will cause you to EXIT from the program and restore
  106.             your screen to text mode.

  108.             NOTE: when you exit, all information is lost. If you need
  109.             it, write it down while you are still in the program.
